If you own or plan to develop a qualifying renewable energy system, like solar or wind, you may be able to enroll in our Feed-In Tariff (FIT) program. Once enrolled, your system becomes a FIT project under contract to sell all the energy it generates to Community Power. This provides long-term revenue for project owners while reducing demand on the energy grid and supporting regional clean energy goals.
This program is different from Net Energy Metering (NEM) or the Solar Billing Plan (SBP), which apply to renewable self-generating systems used to offset your own energy use. FIT is designed for customers who want to sell the energy they generate.
The FIT program can support up to 6 megawatts (MW) of new local energy. All 6 MW are currently available. As contracts are signed, Community Power will update the remaining capacity.
Local developers and property owners can earn fixed income by selling the renewable energy generated from their FIT projects to Community Power, contributing to a cleaner and more reliable energy grid. Here’s how participants benefit:
You’ll earn a set rate for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity your system delivers to the grid, with higher payments during hours when energy demand and emissions are highest.
Time Period | Hours | Price per MWh (kWh) |
|---|---|---|
Premium Hours | 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. | $120/MWh ($0.12/kWh) |
All Other Hours | All Other Hours | $60/MWh ($0.06/kWh) |
FIT projects that support local hiring, repurpose previously developed land or are located in Communities of Concern can qualify for payments in addition to standard pricing for the first five years.
Criteria | Bonus Price per MWh (kWh) |
|---|---|
Local Business | $2.50/MWh ($0.0025/kWh) |
Previously Developed Site | $2.50/MWh ($0.0025/kWh) |
Sited within a Community of Concern | $2.50/MWh ($0.0025/kWh) |
All FIT projects follow Community Power’s Inclusive and Sustainable Workforce Policy, ensuring projects contribute to local economic opportunity, including:
To be eligible, your renewable energy generating system must be:
Each FIT project requires a standard PPA with Community Power. This agreement outlines the terms for selling your electricity and cannot be changed. You can choose a contract length of 10, 15 or 20 years.

No, FIT is for newly developed projects that sell 100% of the energy they generate to the grid. If your solar system is intended to offset your own electricity use, learn more about Net Energy Metering (NEM) or the Solar Billing Plan (SBP).
No, FIT requires you to sell all energy generated by your renewable energy system to Community Power.
Yes, you must submit all required permits from the city or county where your project is located in your FIT application and maintain them through the duration of the contract.
You or your contractor must go through SDG&E’s interconnection process.
Yes, the FIT program can only support a total capacity of up to 6 MW. Applications are accepted until this capacity is met.
You can choose a 10, 15 or 20-year contract term. Payments are based on fixed pricing and begin when your project is operational. View the Feed-In Tariff (FIT) Schedule for more details.
Projects must be under 1 MW, use a CEC certified RPS-eligible renewable energy source and be located entirely within San Diego Community Power’s service area. Click here to see the full eligibility requirements.
