2023 Power Content Label

The chart indicates which types of power San Diego Community Power sourced for customers in 2023, as required by the California Energy Commission.

The generation data represents energy procured during 2023 and is provided in the “Annual Report to the California Energy Commission: Power Source Disclosure Program.” This information is required by the California Energy Commission to be mailed to active San Diego Community Power customers. A portion of Community Power’s energy comes from clean, large hydroelectric power stations. Under California law, large hydroelectric power stations do not qualify as eligible renewable resources. Percentages may not total 100% due to rounding.

What is the Power Content Label?

The annual Power Content Label resembles a nutrition label, providing a breakdown of energy sources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear, large hydroelectric and natural gas. The above Power Content Label allows customers to compare the power content of San Diego Community Power’s PowerOn and Power100 service levels and provides a summary of California’s energy mix.

The California Energy Commission’s Power Source Disclosure program works with retail energy suppliers like San Diego Community Power each year to ensure consumers receive energy source and greenhouse gas information on the energy they used over the previous calendar year.

This says “2023 Power Content Label.” Don’t you mean 2024?

This Power Content Label reflects the content of the electricity served by San Diego Community Power through the year of 2023. Next year in 2025, customers will receive a 2024 Power Content Label to demonstrate the content of electricity served in 2024.

The reason you receive each annual Power Content Label in the following calendar year is to ensure that its information is reviewed and accepted by the California Energy Commission (CEC) for validity.

What is “unspecified” power?

Unspecified power refers to electricity that is not traceable to a specific generating facility, such as electricity traded through open market transactions. This energy is sourced from the generation mix of the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) power grid.

Why is San Diego Community Power’s Green House Gas Emissions Intensity higher than the California Utility Average?

San Diego Community Power provided a power mix with a higher renewable percentage than the California Utility Average. However, Community Power chose not to procure nuclear, carbon-free, energy in 2023. Additionally, the California and Pacific Northwest snowpack levels caused the availability of carbon-free large hydroelectric power to decrease. Due to pricing concerns which could reflect higher costs to ratepayers, Community Power procured less large hydroelectric power. The lower carbon-free percentage results in a higher Green House Gas Emissions Intensity compared to the California Utility Average in 2023.

San Diego Community Power’s most recent Power Content Label was distributed via email on Dec. 10, 2024 from SDCommunityPower@public.govdelivery.com to customers with an email address on file with SDG&E.
