Understanding your Bill

As a customer of San Diego Community Power, you won’t have to worry about figuring out another utility bill. You’ll still receive a single utility bill from SDG&E, our partner in the delivery and servicing of the electricity we buy for you. Our charges will be included in the same bill.

Your electric bill will look just like it used to, with a few key differences:

  • SDG&E no longer charges for your electricity generation, since we’re now buying power for you. So the SDG&E page will show a generation credit.
  • SDG&E still charges you for transmission, or delivery of the power we buy for you. Those charges won’t change.
  • SDCP buys power for you, so you’ll see a new page that details our generation rates. It also include the fees that all CCAs are required to add, by law. We factor those fees into our total charges to be sure that you don’t end up paying more as our customer.

If you’re one of our standard service PowerOn customers, our charges and their credit will generally cancel each other out. There’s never a duplicate charge on your electric bill.

Remember that SDG&E is still responsible for servicing your electricity account, repairs, and billing. So if your electrical power goes out, or if you need an emergency repair, please contact SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343.

We put together the following bill explainer video that walks through the various charges listed on your monthly bill.

  • 4. The Power Charge Indifference Adjustment, commonly referred to as the “PCIA“, is a charge from SDG&E to recuperate above-market costs associated with power purchased on your behalf prior to your switch to SDCP and is calculated annually. PCIA is charged on a per kWh basis, based on net monthly usage and is unaffected by time-of-use. These charges are set by SDG&E, and we set our rates with the PCIA charges in mind so that the total cost to SDCP customers is competitive with what you’d pay for SDG&E generation service.
